Stunning Surround Sound: How To Ensure Your Home Cinema Cables Don't Leave You With Bumpy Walls

When you have kids, it can get expensive to take them to the movies every month to see the latest blockbusters. As someone who has decided to turn their living room into a home cinema, once you get all the components installed, you are going to enjoy watching movies at home. However, when it comes to the cabling side of the install, it is important you think about how you will hide the cables without being left with bumpy walls. These tips will help you to achieve a flawless wall finish in your home cinema room.

Hiding The Trunking

When you have some cables to be run along the wall, the best way to keep them tidy is to run them through trunking. Trunking is a tube that keeps all the cables confined to one place. Therefore, you need to know how to hide the trunking tube.

When you know where in the wall you want the trunking to go, you cut out a piece of your wall that is just a little wider than the trunking tube. The trunking tube is then placed into the recess of the wall and must be pushed back far enough so there is at least 5 mm to the wall surface. If you cannot achieve this yourself, call a building contractor to come and advise you further.

Covering The Trunking

Once the trunking is in place, the next step is to rub the outside of the trunking with a rough piece of sandpaper. The rougher the surface, the better the chance of filler sticking onto it. Putty is a good filler to use around the trunking, as it is flexible and easy to mold to the shape of the tube. You can purchase both the sandpaper and the putty filler from your local hardware store.

Once the filler is fully cured and hardened, then the wall can be plastered over before it is repainted. If you don't follow this method for pushing the trunking back into the wall, it will protrude through to a point you can never make the wall look flat again.

A plasterer is the best person to finish the project, as you want to make sure all the seams where the wall meets the filler are sufficiently flattened before the plaster is applied. Inexperience with plastering means you will end up with bumpy walls.

Once the cables are in and hooked up to your surround sound equipment, you can put your feet up and enjoy watching your movies at home without paying cinema prices.
